desktop--main screen area intended for user-friendly work surface and navigation of a computer's programs.

gadget--miniprograms which can be added anywhere to your desktop.

icon--a small pictogram on the computer.

jump list--list of recently used files.

libraries--organize files.

minimize, maximize, restore, and close buttons--user can reduce the screen to the task bar, shrink or grow the screen, or even close.

pin a program--attach program icon to window area for easy access.

screen resolution--defines how much can be viewed on your computer screen. The higher your resoltuions, the more visible room you will have available. It is measured by the number of pixels horizontal and vertical on your screen.

scroll bars--user can move up and down or left and right in the screen.

search box--convenient way of searching and finding things on your computer.

start menu--provides a list of choices to your computer's programs, folders, and settings.

taskbar--a bar displayed on the edge of a desktop screen that is used to launch and monitor running applications.

title bar--tells the user the name of the program and file.

wallpaper--desktop background.

work area--screen area where the user performs task.
